The Ben-Yakar research group has developed a large-scale microfluidic chip for high-throughput screening of C. elegans disease models, published in Nature Communications (Mondal et al. 2016; DOI 10.1038/ncomms13023). The platform enables high-resolution phenotyping of ~4,000 C. elegans from 96 different populations in approximately 15 minutes.

Dr. Ben-Yakar receives CPRIT grant

CPRIT

Dr. Ben-Yakar has been awarded a grant from the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) together with Dr. Tomasz Tkacyk from Rice University, to continue developing the next generation "smart laser scalpel." Using ultrashort laser pulses, the new scalpel can achieve the highest precision that will help in the removal of small malignant growths in delicate tissue such as vocal folds.

Endoscope research featured on KXAN news

KXAN picture

KXAN conducted an interview with Dr. Ben-Yakar highlighting the lab’s development of a femtosecond laser microsurgery endoscope. The video and corresponding article, entitled “UT professor finds way to kill cancer cells,” describe the endoscope design and efforts to bring it to the clinics. The interview aired on KXAN in September 2012.
