The Operations Research / Industrial Engineering Group, ORIE, is a major technical area within the Mechanical Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Austin. This area has been teaching and conducting research for many years. The faculty do research across many fields. Undergraduate students take many introductory and technical courses taught by ORIE faculty. Graduate students also take courses taught by ORIE faculty, as well as work in the Department and research labs as research and teaching assistants.

The Student Chapter of INFORMS publishes a newsletter each semester that keeps OR / IE students informed about the program at UT and beyond.
