Onur received his BS and MSc degrees from Bilkent University (Ankara), in 2003 and 2005 respectively in Electrical Engineering. During his MSc, he investigated safety of metallic implants in patients that undergo Magnetic Resonance Imaging. In 2005, he joined Optical Microsystems Laboratory at Koc University as a PhD candidate, where he worked on the development of MEMS based thermal imaging sensor arrays and other satellite projects that rely on optical readout of microsensor devices. During his graduate studies he visited Johns Hopkins University, Georgia Tech. and EPFL as a short term scholar for a total duration of one year.
After receiving his PhD in 2010, Onur joined the FemtoLAB at UT Austin as a postdoctoral fellow and is currently working on development of clinical femtosecond laser microsurgery tools that incorporate a number of micro-optical components in a tiny endoscope for imaging and ablation.
